I can't tell you how good it feels to be finally writing a Hornets' game preview. All the hype that came with this offseason has come to a halt and the anticipation is over. For the first time in a long time, Charlotte Hornets basketball is back.
What To Watch For
While I'm interested to see the team as a whole, there is one guy in particular I can't wait to watch tonight. If the Hornets want to make some noise come April and May, this player is going to need to come up big. That's why Kemba Walker is my key to the Hornets 2014-15 campaign. Everyone knows about Jefferson and Stephenson, but I think people are forgetting about Kemba. The addition of Stephenson should help Walker, as he will now be the Hornets third option behind Jefferson and Stephenson. This doesn't mean Walker won't have his chance to make big plays because he will. If he's able to capitalize on those chances, it should be a very fun year in the Queen City.
Other Things To watch
-How will new PG Brian Roberts fit into the Hornets' strategy: Most figured the Hornets would acquire a bigger more physical gaurs in the offseason to compliment Walker. Instead, they signed a guy very similar to Walker. As any basketball person knows, a good backup PG is very important to a team's depth.
-Lance Stephenson: It's pretty obvious that Hornet nation is excited to see this man in the purple and teal. Quite frankly, you'd be a fool not to be. Stephenson could be the missing piece to the puzzle for Charlotte.
-How Coach Clifford's system looks in year two. Once again, we won't know tonight, but it's something we can watch for all season. They say a defense only gets better as the players get more familiar with the system. If that holds true, this Hornets team will be hard to score points on.
Tonight's game is not being televised locally. However, WFNZ (610AM) will have radio coverage from Philly beginning at 7PM. The Sixers will be televising the game, meaning it will be available on NBA League Pass.
