Tonight will be by far the toughest game for the 2014-15 Charlotte Hornets. Without Al Jefferson, they have a very slim chance of beating a very good Rockets team. When you look at the starters (found below), you see the Rockets have the advantage in nearly every category. The Hornets offense is predicated around their big man in the middle. Anyone who watches the Hornets regularly knows there is a considerable drop off in terms of post game when Biyombo is in for Jefferson. If the Hornets plan to win this game, they must hit their shots. If the rim is tight early on for Charlotte, expect things to get out of hand.
PG: Kemba Walker Vs. Patrick Beverley
SG: Gerald Henderson Vs. James Harden
SF: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Vs. Trevor Ariza
PF: Cody Zeller Vs. Josh Smith
C: Bismack Biyombo* Vs. Dwight Howard
*As you know by now, Al Jefferson is out at least a month with his groin strain. Biyombo will handle the center duties until he returns.
I’ll be watching Kemba Walker tonight. While Beverley may not be a star, his defense is known around the league to be very good. With that being said, Walker is a team guy, and wants to win very badly. If the Hornets are in the game late, Walker will have at least 25 points.
What To Watch For
Bismack Biyombo - As a lot of you already know, Biz has had a pretty good career against the perennial All-Star in Dwight Howard. Some of you may remember that one of the Bobcats seven wins back in the day came against Howard and the Magic. Biyombo’s defense was a huge reason why. We’ll see if history can repeat itself tonight.
I give the Hornets little to no chance tonight in Houston. In fact, the only real reason to tune in is to see how the Hornets adjust to life with no Al Jefferson. Rockets 110 - Hornets 85.
Tonight’s game will be available on Fox Sports South, as well as the Charlotte Hornets Radio Network, and it’s flagship station 610AM WFNZ.
Happy new year to all, and thanks for reading our blog. Here’s to a prosperous and victorious 2015 for Charlotte sports.
